Description:

Nuance Communications, Inc. is looking for computational linguists for speech
recognition projects. This is a one year contract work opportunity for
computational linguists.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Evaluating design and quality of pronunciation dictionaries
- Identifying new entries for general and specialized dictionaries
- Correcting existing dictionary entries
- Managing language consultant contractors
- Develop, enhance and debug NLP grammars
- Serving as a language expert resource for engineers and researchers
- Phonetic transcription
- Merging in house resources

Required Skills:
- Native speaker of English or near-native fluency
- A post-graduate degree in computational linguistics, or linguistics
- Ability to program in a scripting language (Perl or Python a must)
- Experience with phonetic transcription and the International Phonetic Alphabet
- Ability to work independently
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux (navigating directory structures, copying
files, etc.)
- Familiarity with a text editor (e.g. emacs or vi)

Desirable:
- A computationl linguist with some experience in industry
- Knowledge of other languages from the following list: Arabic, Finnish, Hebrew,
Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese
