The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and AfricanLanguages at Michigan State University seeks to fill a tenure-systemappointment in Psycholinguistics at the Assistant Professor level to beginAugust 16, 2012. A Ph.D. in Linguistics, Psychology, or a closely relatedfield is required by time of appointment. Candidates should be able todemonstrate the relevance of their research interests to other areas oflinguistics, such as phonology, syntax, formal semantics, languageacquisition, sociolinguistics or neurolinguistics. We especially welcomecandidates whose research is crosslinguistic in nature.
This position will complement strengths in formal and experimentallinguistics in the Linguistics Program. The successful candidate shouldhave a record of publication and/or presentations, expertise in adultlanguage processing (comprehension or production), and outstandingpotential to obtain external funding. We seek applicants who can contributeto collaborative research and teaching across subdisciplines withinlinguistics and to interdisciplinary research in Cognitive Science. Theposition holder will benefit from the interdisciplinary MSU Cognitive ScienceProgram, which fosters scholarship and research that transcends traditionaldisciplinary boundaries in the pursuit of the nature of mind, and provides astructure for graduate training designed to produce new scholars andscientists in the field. Contributions to the linguistics curriculum at both thegraduate and undergraduate level are expected, as well as the ability toteach an introductory course in Cognitive Science.
