The University of Edinburgh is making a major investment in the future ofits academic staff with the appointment of prestigious tenure-trackFellowships across all disciplines. These 5-year Fellowships are intendedto support outstanding candidates at the start of their independentacademic career. Three of these posts are available in the School ofPhilosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences.
The successful candidate for the Language Sciences post will be expected tocontribute to the development of cognitive science -- very broadly defined-- within Linguistics and English Language, and will help to develop andcontribute teaching to the new MSc programme, Cognition in Science and Society.
A Chancellor`s Fellow will already show the ability to conductworld-leading research and exhibit clear potential to become aninternational leader in their discipline. The Fellow will be able toconcentrate on research in the first instance, acquiring the full duties ofUniversity Lecturer across the period of the Fellowship. Subject tosatisfactory review at the end of 3 years, the Fellow will move to an opencontract on the University academic staff.
Appointment will normally be made on the Lecturer scale (£36,862 -£44,016), dependent on experience, and in exceptional circumstances a moresenior appointment may be made. Some positions are available with immediateeffect and it is expected that successful applicants will be in post fromAugust 2012.
