Meeting Description:

Cognition and Language Workshop
University of California, Santa Barbara, April 14, 2012

The Cognition and Language Workshop (CLaW) is a conference focused on the relationship between language and cognition. The conference aims to provide a venue for presentation of research on language as a cognitive activity, as well at research on cognition as a dimension of language. CLaW is oriented towards empirical, data-driven research, and encourages interdisciplinary work connecting linguistics with other disciplines within cognitive science.

CLaW is organized by SCUL (Studying the Cognitive Underpinnings of Language), an interdisciplinary research group at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The 2012 Cognition and Language Workshop (CLaW) will take place on April 14, 2012, at UC Santa Barbara.

The conference will feature an invited keynote talk by Professor Seana Coulson of UC San Diego, entitled ''Neural Cartography: Conceptual Mapping in Language and Cognition''. The program also includes eight talks selected from among peer-reviewed abstracts. Conference presentations cover a range of topics in the area of language and cognition, including language acquisition, codeswitching, metaphor, and morphosyntax, and draw on data from several languages, including English, Dutch, Czech, and Albanian.

More information about the conference, including the complete program, can be found on the CLaW website at http://www.linguistics.ucsb.edu/claw/ . To register for the conference, please email claw.ucsbgmail.com with your name and affiliation. There is a $10 registration fee, payable on site or by mailing a check.
