Point of View as ChallengeXXXIII International VAKKI SymposiumFebruary 7-8 2013 in Vaasa, Finland
The annual symposium of the University of Vaasa Research Association of Translation, LSP and Multilingualism VAKKI is arranged on February 7-8, 2013, with the theme 'Point of View as Challenge'.
The keynote speakers are:
Professor Kjell Lars Berge, Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies, University of OsloProfessor Helle V. Dam, Department of Business Communication, Aarhus University
The symposium also features the nomination of Humanist of the Year 2013.

Call for Papers:
We welcome papers that examine point of view in the research process and as an independent field of study.
Regarding point of view as challenge may relate to topics such as:
- The concept 'point of view'- Point of view of time, place, space- Point of view within translation, interpretation, LSP or multilingualism- Point of view within language acquisition, language research and language acquisition research- Point of view and source criticism- The objectivity and subjectivity of points of view- Point of view in transition and competition- The culture-specificity of points of view
In addition to these, we welcome papers within the research fields of VAKKI.
Participants can contribute with a presentation (20 min + 5 min discussion) or a poster. Selected presentations will be published in a symposium volume which will be edited in consultation with a special editorial review board. The symposium volume will be published in printed and electronic form. The working languages of the symposium are Finnish, Swedish, English and German.
Please submit presentation and poster abstracts (max. 300 words) to symposium2013
vakki.net before November 1, 2012 (NB! The email will be opened on September 1, 2012). The papers will be selected based on the scientific quality of the abstract. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by December 3, 2012. Participants should register for the symposium electronically December 12, 2012 - January 1, 2013. Further information will be given in the second Call for Papers in August.
