Meeting Description:
We are pleased to announce that The 34th All India Conference of Linguists (34AICL) will be held as scheduled in the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, India from November 1-3, 2012. The conference is being organized by the Linguistic Society of India in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics and the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.
The theme of this year's conference is Linguistic Diversity in India: Typologies, Cultures and Contacts.
Keynote Speaker:
Prof. Gregory D.S.Anderson, University of Oregon, USA
Plenary Speakers:
Prof. K.V.Subbarao, DelhiProf. Juanita War, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong2 more to be confirmed
Special Sessions:
There will be three special sessions in the 34th AICL:
1. Typology of North-East Indian Languages2. Language Contact in North-East India3. Natural Language Processing in South Asian Languages
Invited Colloquia:
The conference will include two invited colloquia (1 hour and 40 minutes each). Names of Colloquium organizers will be announced in the final announcement along with the topics of the presentations.
Visas:
All non-Indian citizens who are attending the Conference need a visa to enter India. Please contact the Indian Consulate nearest to you for visa procedures. When your abstract is accepted, you will be issued an official letter inviting you to the Conference, which you can submit with your visa application.
Registration:
The registration fee is as follows:
1. Rs. 500 for a student (student-status has to be established through a letter from the student's department) without fellowship2. Rs. 1000 for all others.
Please note the accompanying persons will also have to register.
The Conference Registration Form should be sent along with the Fee payment in advance. This is obligatory for all paper presenters. We regret that we will be unable to accept late registrations.
Registration form and modes of payment will be made available after August 15, 2012. Please plan accordingly and send the registration forms latest by September 30, 2012.
Travel:
The participants are requested to make their own travel arrangements and arrange for funding from their respective organizations.

2nd Call for Papers:
Extended deadline for abstracts: July 15, 2012

Priority consideration will be given to papers that specifically address the conference theme and then to papers on different aspects of theoretical and applied linguistics including but not limited to:

Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts should be submitted in English and should be sent by July 15, 2012 either online at
http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/34aicl (34AICL Abstract Submission) or by email to 34aicl
gmail.com in both pdf and doc/docx formats.
Authors may submit no more than one individual and one joint (co-authored) proposal. The abstracts should be anonymous, and fit on at most 2 pages including examples, tables/figures and references (using 12-point Times New Roman with reasonable margins).
Please write the (corresponding) author's name plus the word 'abstract' in the subject line of your message (e.g., 'Gupta abstract'), and include author name(s), affiliation, contact information and the title of the abstract in the body of the email. For co-authored papers indicate the email address that we should use for correspondence.

All paper presenters have to be LSI members by the time they register for the conference. LSI Membership fee can be paid upon arrival in Shillong.
