We invite applications for a part time PhD research position (50%) infirst language acquisition starting October the 1st, 2012. The positionis part of a two year DFG-grant on the acquisition of connectives(and/but) in German, English, and Bulgarian at the Centre forGeneral Linguistics (ZAS), Berlin. Funding for additional 12 months islikely.
The position is remunerated according to E13 of the German TVOeDpayscale. The required research concerns mainly experimentalinvestigations in the development of semantic connotations and thesyntactic embedding of but in English- and partly German-learningchildren in the age range from 2:0 to 6;0. Applicants must havecompleted their university degree by the time of appointment, andmust have a strong research interest and, ideally, some experiencein language acquisition research, specifically discourse relatedsyntactic development and experimental work. Fluent competence inGerman and English is required.

The ZAS is a research institute of the State of Berlin receiving majorfinancial support from the German Federal Government. Its five maindivisions currently focus on the general research programEmbedding, linkage and constituent boundaries in speech, grammarand discourse. Duties are primarily research-oriented, which caninclude some administration and acquisition of external funding.
