The Department of Philology (Linguistics Division) of the University of Patras(
www.philology.upatras.gr) invites applications for a Ph.D. studentship inLinguistics.
The successful candidate will receive a three-year scholarship at the ResearchCommittee rate, plus travel and conference funding. There are no tuition fees. Theposition is available for 36 months starting October 1st 2012, and ending bySeptember 30, 2015 (no extension will be allowed).
The research position is available within the THALIS project 'Pontus, Cappadocia,Aivali: In search of Asia Minor Greek'. The aim of the Ph.D. research is toinvestigate the morphology of Asia Minor dialects and its development throughcontact with Turkish.
The successful candidate must hold an M.A. degree and have a solid backgroundin morphology. A good command of Greek and English is required and a basicknowledge of Turkish will be taken into consideration. (S)he will work at theLaboratory of Modern Greek Dialects of the Dept. of Philology(
www.philology.upatras.gr/LMGD/en/index.html) and will have access to theLaboratory's oral and written dialectal archives. (S)he may be asked to conductsome field work and annotate dialectal material for which no previous experience isnecessary.
Candidates are requested to submit an application for admission to Ph.D. studiesat the Dept. of Philology of the University of Patras (Professor A. Ralli), with thefollowing documents:- letter of motivation describing the research interests (500 to 1000 words)- CV- A copy of the MA title and the MA grades transcript- the MA thesis or other sample of writing- 2 letter(s) of recommendation (sent directly by referees)
