This position requires significant contributions to the developmentand evolvement of natural language processing research at PNNL.The incumbent will possess skills in both natural languageprocessing and software design and development. Expertise innatural language processing should include one or moreapplications including, but not limited to, information extraction,knowledge base population, machine reading, sentiment analysisand social media analytics. Software development skills shouldinclude, but are not limited to, object oriented programming anddevelopment, data modeling, building demonstrable and functionalprototypes, and contributing to deployment-ready software.

In carrying out these duties, the incumbent will be responsible formaintaining strategic alliances with specified clients, managingindividual or small team assignments for multiple projects,performing assignments with minimal oversight, working effectivelywithin interdisciplinary development teams, and contributing toproposals, publications and presentations.

Specific responsibilities include:- Apply computational linguistics approaches and algorithms- Contribute to the translation of client requests and needs into a setof project requirements and tasks- Contribute to software design- Construct functional applications and prototypes using PHP, Perl,Python and Java- Perform algorithmic development and implementation, especiallyas they pertain to NLP- Evaluate natural language processing methods and results- Develop client server and database aware applications- Design and implement graphical user interfaces- Develop on Linux and Windows environments- Effectively manage individual tasks, schedule, workload, budget,and deadlines- Contribute to technical presentations and demonstrations ofdesigns, prototypes and operational software to existing andpotential clients; group, division, and sector managers- Contribute to or lead efforts in publishing research- Help grow the natural language processing business portfoliothrough proposal writing and client engagement

This position requires the ability to obtain a federal security clearancein a timely manner this requires:- US Citizenship- Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to aFederal background investigation and must meet eligibilityrequirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR710, Appendix B.- Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will beconsidered by the Department of Energy to be Testing DesignatedPositions which means that they are subject to applicant, random,and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able todemonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for the 12 consecutive monthspreceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for NationalSecurity Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearanceprocessing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegaldrugs for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated
