Meeting Description:

The second Formal Approaches to Mayan Linguistics (FAMLi II) Workshop will take place August 3-4, 2012 at the city hall in Patzún, Guatemala. The aim is to bring together linguists to present work on contemporary Mayan languages and tackle new and outstanding puzzles in the field. FAMLi encourages participation from researchers working in any linguistic framework, and with any level of formal linguistic background, to present data and analyses of Mayan languages. By attracting a diverse group of participants, FAMLi hopes to facilitate communication between Mayan language researchers, and to create contacts between Mayan scholars and the broader theoretical community.

FAMLi invited talks: Rodrigo Guitiérrez Bravo, Juan Vázquez Álvarez

Immediately before FAMLi II starts (August 1-2), there will be a two-day workshop with 9 invited speakers on Corpus-based Approaches to Mayan linguistics. The goal of CAML is to provide training in the creation of linguistic corpora, and to discuss issues specific to Mayan corpus creation. Space might be limited, so presenters interested in attending should indicate this on the abstracts they submit.

CAML invited talks: Juan Ajsivinac, Telma Can, Nora England, John Haviland, Robert Henderson, Pedro Mateo, Alexis Palmer, Gilles Pollian, Andrés Salanova

Based Approaches to Mayan Linguistics).
