The Department of Cognitive Science in the Krieger School of Arts andSciences and the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University seek afaculty candidate, at any level, with an exceptional record of conductingand directing research in the area of the University's new Science ofLearning initiative. Research approaches and content areas of particularinterest include learning, development, and plasticity in the areas oflanguage, visual or speech perception, and spatial representation. Theideal candidate should carry out research that makes substantive contactwith theory, uses experimental, developmental, linguistic, neuroscience,and/or computational approaches, and has implications for applicationwithin the broad field of learning. The appointment will be joint betweenthe Cognitive Science Department and the School of Education, with theexpectation of responsibilities in both, but will have tenure-track and/ortenured status within the Cognitive Science Department. Candidates shouldbe strongly interdisciplinary, prepared to carry out effective teaching,student supervision, and collaboration in a formally-oriented, highlyinterdisciplinary Cognitive Science department, and eager to take advantageof collaborations with the School of Education and its connection todiverse student populations in area public and private schools. Candidatesshould be capable of making significant contributions to the Science ofLearning initiative involving the Cognitive Science Department, the Schoolof Education, and other units; further faculty growth in this area isanticipated. The Cognitive Science Department and the School of Educationhave a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff.
