Description:

The Department of East Asian Studies seeks an assistant professor withexpertise in Chinese language acquisition and pedagogy for a tenure-trackposition. The successful candidate will be able to develop courses, teach,and conduct research in the areas of second language acquisition andChinese language pedagogy.

Required Qualifications include: a PhD in Chinese applied linguistics,language pedagogy, second language acquisition, educational linguistics,foreign language education or a related field by August 1, 2013; evidenceof an ongoing research program and level of publication consistent withexperience; evidence of successful college/university teaching; ability toteach undergraduate and graduate East Asian Studies degree courses; nativeor near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese.

Scholars who have an interest in the use of technology and social media inChinese language training are particularly encouraged to apply.

The teaching workload is 2 courses per semester. The successful candidatemust be able to teach undergraduate and graduate East Asian Studies degreecourses. The candidate is also expected to maintain an active researchagenda in the areas of second language acquisition and Chinese languagepedagogy.
