Job Title: Lecturer in Corpus LinguisticsGrade: 7Duration: IndefiniteDepartment/College: Linguistics and English LanguageDirectly responsible to: Head of DepartmentSupervisory responsibility for: N/AOther contacts:- Internal: Colleagues and students in the Department and in the Faculty ofArts and Social Sciences, together with colleagues in other faculties,providers of student support services, the Library, ISS, centraladministration and other relevant university actors.- External: Relevant research funding bodies and councils, professionalbodies, employers, business organisations, local and UK governmentorganisations, academic and research networks.

Major Duties:- Contribute to the development of the Department through the generation ofresearch, teaching and scholarship of national excellence;- Contribute expertise in Corpus Linguistics and other areas of Linguisticsand English Language study at undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels;- Evidence of a personal research agenda in Corpus Linguistics, in keepingwith REF criteria, striving to produce work of national standing within thestrategic aims of the Department and University;- Participate in research teams or other collaborative research initiatives(particularly within the ESRC Centre on Corpus Approaches to Social Science)and teaching depending on the postholder’s interests and background;- Evidence of a clear and realizable plan to apply for grants for new researchprojects, individual and/or collaborative;- Contribute to the Department’s academic and pastoral care of its studentsand to the enhancement of their learning, personal development andachievement;- Supervise dissertations and contribute to the supervision of PhD candidates;- Co-ordinate UG, MA and PhD modules in Corpus Linguistics and other areas oflinguistics;- Communicate effectively with students and colleagues, using face-to-face,telephone, written and electronic communication (including email and VLE)modes as appropriate;- Assume various administrative tasks and responsibilities as requested by theHead of Department;- Be available to teach short courses abroad (normally not more than once ayear) as necessary;- Provide cover for colleagues on sabbatical where necessary;- Engage in other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as required bythe Head of Department.
