"Child acquisition of (non)restrictive relative clauses in German" (CARU)PI: Prof. Dr. Petra Schulz.
The project is part of the research group "Relative clauses", funded by theGerman Research Foundation (DFG) and currently consisting of eight projectsthat investigate relative clauses from different perspectives. For moreinformation visit:http://www.fg1783.uni-frankfurt.de/index.htm
Applications should be submitted by January 4, 2013. Interviews will be heldin the second half of January. The desired starting date is March 1, 2013, orbefore and the position is initially limited until September 30, 2014.Depending on evaluation results, the project can be extended for three moreyears.
In CARU we investigate the acquisition of central semantic and syntacticproperties of relative clauses in German speaking children by studyingchildren’s production and comprehension abilities across differentexperimental tasks. The successful applicant is responsible for the furtherdevelopment and implementation of psycholinguistic offline-methods suitablefor monolingual children aged 3 to 7 years, and statistical data analysis, aswell as international presentation and publication of results. The candidateis expected to work closely with team members and to collaborate with otherprojects in the research group.
Candidates should have an advanced degree (PhD., M.A., Diploma) in the fieldof linguistics or a related discipline and have proven ability to carry outexcellent scientific work. We seek candidates with the followingqualifications:- Outstanding degree in general linguistics, Germanic linguistics,psycholinguistics, theoretical linguistics, psychology, or a related field- Team spirit, flexibility, and organizational experience and skills- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and colleagues as wellas with participating day care institutions- Familiarity with quantitative experimental research methods- Extensive knowledge in at least one of the following areas: semantics,syntax, language acquisition, experience with statistical evaluation programs
Candidates without working knowledge of German are expected to learn Germanwithin the first year of employment.
Candidates who are interested in a half time position will also be considered;if suitable candidates apply, the position can be split.
