Colleagues in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguisticsare known for their international-quality research in English Literature,Theatre and Performance, Creative Writing, Applied Linguistics, LiteraryLinguistics, Cultures of the British Isles and English Language. And muchof this activity is passed onto students through our research-led approachto learning and teaching. With over 50 members of academic staff, theSchool of English is able to offer outstanding teaching across a wide rangeof subject areas. In recent years five members of staff have receivedSenate Awards for Teaching Excellence, and one of our staff has beenawarded a National Teaching Fellowship. The School is housed in a newFaculty of Arts building which features modern flexible learning, teachingand research facilities - and a cafe. The School of English plays an activerole in the local community, and our students are encouraged to ventureoutside the University to see how some of the ideas they are learning aboutcan apply in the wider world. We have excellent links with local schools,libraries and museums, and we regularly undertake a range of differentprojects and activities in partnership with these organisations.

The post-holder will design and deliver teaching on the BA in EnglishLanguage and Literature and the MA in English Language Studies (LiteraryLinguistic Pathway). He/she will develop the School's research profilethrough the production of high quality publications and through attractingexternal research funding. The post-holder will be expected to contribute tothe School's presence within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the widerUniversity and, through outreach and knowledge exchange, in Sheffieldand beyond and to carry out appropriate administrative duties to a highstandard.

You will have (or be close to completing) a PhD (or have equivalentexperience) in English Language and Literature a strong research profile inliterary linguistics in a field of research which will complement the existingresearch strengths of the Language and Literature team. You will haveexperience in working at the interface of English Language and EnglishLiterature, and will be competent to undertake undergraduate teaching inboth disciplines, as well as the interdisciplinary core modules. You will haveproven teaching ability, and be able to contribute to the core literarylinguistic modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as wellas contributing to teaching elsewhere in the School.
