This post is to carry out a high-quality research project to conductfundamental research on the role of fine phonetic variation in sound changeby: helping to develop a real-time corpus of Glaswegian vernacular speech;adapting an existing discourse analytical technique for the Glasgow corpusfor data comparison; contributing to the development of appropriate acousticmeasures for analysing coda /r/ and /l/; providing and comparing quantitativereal- and apparent-time accounts of variation and change in Glaswegian overthe past 40 years on the basis of continuous acoustic phonetic measures forboth vowels and consonants. The project also aims to contribute moregenerally to theories of cognitive representations of speech over time.

The post is a fixed term contract (April 2011 until September 2014) with adefined series of outcomes that is financed by a Leverhulme Trust ResearchProject Grant.
