Meeting Description:
The 5th International Conference on the Linguistics of Contemporary English (ICLCE 5) will be held September 25-29, 2013, at the University of Texas at Austin.
The attention devoted to the linguistics of the English language has resulted in a broad body of work in diverse research traditions. The aim of the ICLCE conference is to encourage the cross-fertilization of ideas between different frameworks and research traditions, all of which may address any aspect of the linguistics of contemporary English. Previous ICLCE conferences were held in Edinburgh (2005), Toulouse (2007), London (2009), and Osnabrück (2011) along the same lines. As ICLCE moves west of the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, we hope to build on these successes.
The following speakers have agreed to deliver plenary addresses at ICLCE 5:
John Beavers (University of Texas at Austin)
Alexander Bergs (University of Osnabrück)
Jan Blommaert (Tilburg University)
Barbara Johnstone (Carnegie Mellon University)
Hans Lindquist (Malmö University)
Masayoshi Shibatani (Rice University)
Final Call for Papers:
Abstract submission for ICLCE 5 is closing soon.
Abstracts will be accepted until March 8, 2013. We are accepting abstracts for 20-minute paper presentations and for organized panels. Abstract submission will be handled online at the following URL:
http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/ICLCE2013.
Abstracts for 20-minute papers should be no longer than 300 words excluding references. They should be submitted as a .pdf file, in OpenDoc format (.odt) or in MS Word document format (.doc or .docx). The abstract document itself should be anonymized, i.e. it must not contain the name of the author(s).
Abstracts for organized panels should start with a description of the overall panel up to one page in length, followed by abstracts for all papers included.
At the top of the abstract - preceding the title - please mention two pieces of information:
(1) State whether you are submitting a proposal for a paper or a panel.
(2) List one or several subfield(s) of contemporary English linguistics that your work pertains to. This information helps us assign the right reviewers to your abstract. You may choose from among the following list and/or name additional subfields where appropriate:
- Cognitive linguistics
- Computer-mediated communication
- Corpus linguistics
- Language acquisition
- Lexicography and lexicology
- Morphology and morphosyntax
- Phonetics and phonology
