Meeting Description:
‘Accents’ is an annual conference organized by the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics at the University of Łódź, Poland. It brings together researchers and teachers interested in native and non-native accents of English, approached from a variety of theoretical and/or practical perspectives. Among issues discussed each year, the characteristics and the dynamism of accent usage come into the foreground, with a strong interest in the methodology and tools for accent studies. While we hope to continue the discussion of characteristics, variability and function of phonetic / pronunciation features in natural as well as in formal teaching contexts, the focus of 2013 meeting is on prosody and ways of handling spoken data.
We are proud to announce that the following researchers accepted our invitation and will talk on the following topics:
Ulrike Gut - Corpus-based analysis of second language prosody
Jane Setter - Priorities for intonation teaching: A Global Englishes perspective
Beatrice Szczepek Reed - Phonetics and prosody in natural conversation
