Meeting Description:
The Himalayan Languages Symposium is an annual event that provides an open scholarly forum for scholars working on various aspects of languages of the greater Himalayas region: Burushaski, Kusunda, Tibeto-Burman, Indo-Iranian, Austroasiatic, Kradai, Andamanese, Nahali, Dravidian, or any other language of the area. The Symposium, in addition to Himalayan languages, also welcomes discussion on related disciplines such as history, anthropology, archaeology and prehistory of the greater Himalayan regions.
This year’s HLS is tied in with several exciting events. HLS immediately follows the 5th International Conference on Austroasiatic Linguistics (ICAAL 5) and also features a Master Class and public lecture on integrating disparate fields by Prof. George van Driem, prior to both events. Additional public lectures will also be announced.
Keynote Speakers:
Toni Huber (Humboldt University)
Barbara Kelly (University of Melbourne)
Registration and accommodation details will be announced shortly at

We invite prospective participants to submit an abstract of not more than 500 words (inclusive of data and references) in 12 pt font on a topic relevant to Himalayan languages via EasyAbs from The LINGUIST List. Abstracts can be submitted at
