Description:

The a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne (AGSHC) is a facutlywide integrated graduate school, which is oriented towards a concept of thehumanities, which goes beyond the dichotomy of humanities, cultural andnatural science. An integral part of the AGSHC is the Research Lab, whichconsists of two Postdoc junior research groups covering different thematicfocus areas, which are concerned with questions in the field of epistemologyand the history of science as well as in the field of anthropology and lifesciences within the interdisciplinary context of the Faculty of Arts andHumanities. The junior research groups will be equipped adequately and workindependently.

The two AGSHC-Research Labs, Transformations of Knowledge and Transformationsof Life, have a vacancy starting from October 1, 2013 for 3 Post Doc-Positionseach (6 in total, payment according to TV-L). The research groupTransformations of Knowledge will be concerned with an understanding of thehistorical dynamics of knowledge processes in the context of the specificrelationship between genesis and validity. Special emphasis is put on theprocesses of transformation of knowledge. Subject of the research groupTransformations of Life will be the perception of life and its transformation,as well as the different concepts of life involved. One task of the researchgroup will be to precisely examine the role of free choice of individuals andgroups in life-changing situations.

Appointment requirements are:- A university degree and PhD in a subject, which belongs to the Faculty ofPhilosophy and has a focus in one field of the Research Labs- A proposal (2-3 pages) is required, which is concerned with a futureresearch project

Applications of qualified candidates are explicitly encouraged. Femaleapplicants with equal suitability, ability and professional achievement willbe given preference, provided that the personal qualities of another candidateare not more appropriate for the position. Severely disabled candidates willalso be given preference in the case of overall equal aptitude andqualifications. Part-time employment is generally possible, unless officialconcerns conflict.
