Northwest Narrow Bantu A
Description:
The Research unit Llacan (Langage, langues et cultures d’Afrique noire, C.N.R.S.-Inalco, Paris) invites applications for a three year PhD scholarship to produce a comprehensive grammatical analysis and linguistic documentation of a Cameroonian Bantu language of the A90 group (Kako, Polri or Kwakum). This research project requires extended stays in Cameroun. Supervision in Paris and in the field will be provided by members of the BantuTyp project (
http://llacan.vjf.cnrs.fr/BantuTyp/), especially Mark Van de Velde and Annie Rialland, and by other members of the field work oriented research unit Llacan. The successful candidate will enter the PhD programme of Inalco in Paris. S/he is expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals and to obtain a PhD degree in ideally three years (with a possible extension). We offer a scholarship of about 1500€ monthly (after taxes), as well as appropriate allowance for field work, conference attendance and equipment.
Candidates are required to :- have received thorough training in both phonetics/phonology and morphosyntax
- have good command of English and French
- comply to the requirements for enrollment in the PhD programme of Inalco (see

Ideally, candidates also
- received training in field methods and linguistic documentation
- have knowledge of Bantu linguistics
- have knowledge of linguistic typology
- have some experience analysing languages without a written tradition

You can also provide contact details of a referee. The deadline for enrollment in the PhD programme is October 10th, when all paperwork should have reached the university administration. The scholarship can start as soon as enrollment has been approved.
