The Department of English Language and Linguistics invites applications for aLecturer in Linguistics with a specialization in formal or experimentalpragmatics. A secondary expertise in a related area, such as semantics ordiscourse analysis is desirable but not essential. The ideal candidate isexpected to have research experience and publications commensurate with thestage in their career. He or she will be expected to contribute to thedepartment’s research, teaching, graduate supervision, and administration.Preference will be given to those applicants who can contribute tointerdisciplinary research within the department, complimenting existing areasof expertise.
The appointee’s duties will include convening and teaching modules from stage1 to stage 3 for the BA in Linguistics, as well as convening and teachingmodules suitable for the MA in Linguistics and the MA in Applied Linguisticsdue to start in 2014-2015.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in linguistics and aresearch specialisation in pragmatics. Evidence of substantial researchactivity, including peer reviewed publications of 3 or 4 quality ready forsubmission to REF2014 is essential. The successful candidate will also haveteaching experience at university level, the ability to deliver effective,high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in their areasof expertise and to work enthusiastically in a team and to pursuecollaborative research and teaching projects.
