Description: A doctoral position in linguistics is available at the University of Geneva for a dedicated and talented young researcher who will be participating in the project ‘Selection at the interfaces’ (PI: Tabea Ihsane) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The aim of the project is to examine nominal and clausal complements in order to determine (i) their structure (syntax), (ii) the meaningful link between these constituents and their structural environment (semantics) and (iii) what is encoded in the lexical items involved (lexicon).

The doctoral student will investigate nominals, and collaborate with a post-doctoral fellow working on clauses. His/her work will be supervised by Tabea Ihsane and Genoveva Puskás.

Specifications: Applicants must have an MA (or equivalent degree) in linguistics or in English (with a specialisation in linguistics). Advanced skills in English are required. Applicants are expected to have their research interests in comparative syntax, and in the interfaces. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on the syntax-semantics-lexicon interfaces in the framework of Generative Grammar, and who work primarily on French and/or English.

Duties: Doctoral research on nominal complements. Collaborate with the team involved in the project ‘Selection at the interfaces’.

Terms of employment: Three-year contract. Salary: 42’000 CHF (ca. 33'600 EUR / 28’700 GBP) before taxes in the first year, 45’000 CHF in the second year and 48’000 CHF in the third year.

Application procedure: Candidates should send a letter of motivation explaining how their research interests fit the project, a letter of recommendation, a curriculum vitae with contact and personal details, and a copy of their MA certificate.
