Department together with the Forum Theoretical
Philosophy will be hosting the second Summer
School in Theoretical Philosophy.

Description:
Our topic this year will be “Individuals and
Indeterminacy. Perspectives in Contemporary
Ontology” and we are looking forward to an
excellent program with some of the world’s most
distinguished scholars in the field. Kit Fine
(NYU), Peter van Inwagen (Notre Dame), Peter
Simons (Trinity College Dublin) and Gabriele De
Anna (University of Bamberg) will present their
current research and discuss their recent work
with graduate students from all over the
world.
Additionally, all participants will be given
the opportunity to propose an essay for a
peer-reviewed anthology which will be published
with Bamberg University Press in 2015 (Because
of the peer-review process, participation in
the Summer School does not, however, guarantee
publication).

The Summer School is open to current graduate
students in philosophy or related fields (i.e.
students who already have a BA or equivalent
and are currently working towards their MA or
PhD/DPhil/Dr.phil). However, exceptions to this
general rule can be made – please contact us if
you have questions.
To apply for the program, please submit a
completed application form and a short letter
of motivation (500 – 2000 words) via email to
application
summerschool-bamberg.de.
The Letter of Motivation should give a clear
and concise picture of why you want to
participate in the program and how the Summer
School will contribute to your overarching
intellectual goals. Please also be sure to
include some information on your philosophical
background and previous engagement with
contemporary metaphysics and ontology.
The deadline for applications is April 30th,
2014. Participants will – if they are admitted
– be charged a participation fee of 450 Euros.
All applicants will be notified by the
beginning of May 2014.
