Focus: The Summer University of Slovak Language
and Culture offers its prospective participants
an opportunity to develop or improve their
communicative skills in the Slovak language and
to learn about Slovakia, its people, culture
and history.

Description:
Summer University of Slovak Language and
Culture is a 3-week intensive language course
of Slovak language accompanied by various
lectures, workshops and trips focused on
contemporary Slovakia, its history and
culture.
Whether you have interest in Slovakia
professionally, personally or you have a Slovak
family background, the Summer University of
Slovak Language and Culture is a perfect way to
spend your holidays in a useful way.
The Summer University is traditionally held at
the Study and Congress Centre of the Comenius
University in Modra Harmónia, a little town
approximately 25 km from Bratislava, the
capital of Slovakia.
The Slovak language course in the Summer
University is taught at four levels:
Beginner
Pre-Intermediate
Intermediate
Advanced
Students are divided to groups of beginners,
pre-intermediates, intermediates and advanced
depending on the results of the placement test.
Study groups are small, usually ranging from 6
to 12 people. The placement test takes place on
the first day of the Summer University.
Classes are held from Monday to Friday
comprising of four lessons of general language
course before noon and two specialized lessons
(phonetic exercises, conversation, stylistics)
in the afternoon (one lesson = 45 minutes).
The language courses are taught by qualified
and experienced teachers of Slovak as a foreign
language. Teaching methods are based on the
communicative approach. Textbooks can be bought
at the venue.
This year the Summer University will also be
accompanied by lectures on Slovak culture given
by respected experts in the field, discussions
and meetings with creators of contemporary
Slovak culture (writers, designers, musicians,
etc.)
In the afternoon and during the weekends there
are also workshops on creative writing, music
and drama and a wide variety of leisure time
activities like sightseeing, hiking, visiting
pottery workshops, museums and wine
tasting.

3-day trip around Slovakia (optional): 99 €
If you register and pay by May 15th 2014 you
will get a 10% discount from the tuition
fee.
