Colloquium on Buddhism and Linguistics

This international meeting is intended to bring together scholars from different backgrounds who are interested in the interface between Buddhism and Linguistics. The colloquium aims to examine the connections between Buddhism and the study of language. We aim at initiating a new interdisciplinary research colloquium that explores how philosophical ideas in Buddhism interact with linguistic theories and language studies. Palgrave MacMillan has already expressed an interest in publishing an edited volume of the papers presented at the conference and contributions are welcome on any topic that brings together the disciplines of Buddhism and linguistics.

Call for Papers:

This is a one day colloquium to explore the connections between Buddhism and Linguistics. Participants interested in this inter-disciplinary area of research are encouraged to send an abstract or attend the colloquium.

Possible topics can include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Language change
- The relationship between sound and meaning
- Language contact
- Interdependence
- Influence of English on Buddhist practice
- Translations
- Markedness in language

Presentations will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for discussion.
