20th Frisian Philologists' Conference
Wednesday 10, Thursday 11, and Friday 12
December 2014
The Fryske Akademy (Frisian Academy) organizes
the 20th Frysk Filologekongres (Frisian
Philologists' Conference), in Leeuwarden, on
December 10 to 12. The conference provides a
forum for scientific debate concerning Frisian
Studies in the broadest sense. The working
languages will be Frisian, Dutch, English, and
German.
Each day will start with a plenary session,
followed by parallel sessions. An evening
session on Education will take place at

The conference will be held at Grand-Café
Restaurant De Koperen Tuin, Prinsentuin 1, in
Leeuwarden. The conference fee is Euros 100 to
cover the entire conference, or Euros 40 per
day (including conference documentation,
coffee/tea, and lunch). Conference costs will
be waived for participants on the day they
present their paper. Students will be admitted
free of charge. A conference dinner (Costs:
Euros 30) will be held on Wednesday 10.

The following research areas will be focused
on: Old Frisian, Linguistics, Literature,
Lexicography, Linguistic sociology, History of
Friesland/Cultural studies. The field of
research is Frisian, including the dialects of
Friesland, in all its phases and Frisian in
Germany (North and East Friesland). Papers
offering a relevant comparative perspective are
also warmly welcomed.
Proposals for Presentations:
The conference committee invites interested
parties to submit proposals for presentations
during the parallel sessions by sending in an
abstract (of roughly 300 words in length).
Lecturers who want to have their lecture placed
in a specific research area should mention this
at submission. Each presentation will last
thirty minutes (20 minutes for the lecture
itself followed by 10 minutes for discussion).
After the deadline (see below) a choice will be
made from the proposals received. Lecturers can
offer their paper for the conference
proceedings, Philologia Frisica anno 2014,
which will be edited by the conference
committee. Please submit abstracts by e-mail to

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15
September 2014. You'll be notified before
October 1 whether your abstract is
accepted.
