Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites
applications for a one-year, part time (67%)
Lecturer/ Instructor. The appointee will teach
at least two courses per semester for the
academic year 2014-2015. The percent time of
the appointment may increase based on
departmental need and candidate’s area of
expertise. The appointee will teach Swahili
language classes at Elementary (for beginners)
and/or Intermediate (second year learners)
level. The target start date of the appointment
is August 16, 2014. Salary is commensurate with
experience.
Responsibilities include teaching all classes
and labs for the assigned courses and
conducting assessments, in consultation with
the language program director. Duties include
teaching, grading, material development,
holding office hours, attending meetings, as
well as assisting with special events (such as
languages days, film nights, conversation
tables) and promoting the program through
activities, flyers, informational sessions, as
applicable.
Experience in language teaching is required,
with a specialization in Swahili or experience
with teaching Swahili as a foreign language is
preferred.
Candidates with a PhD in hand, evidence of
successful teaching at the graduate and/or
undergraduate levels will be considered as a
Lecturer.
Candidates who are ABD or hold a Master’s
degree and present evidence of successful
teaching at the graduate and/or undergraduate
levels will be considered as an Instructor.
