Assistant/Associate Professor of Hispanic Linguistics

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-system position in Hispanic linguistics with a focus on the acquisition and teaching of Spanish for Heritage Learners to begin in August 2015. Expertise in Spanish in the United States, or other areas of Hispanic linguistics is also desirable. The successful candidate will direct one of the oldest, largest and most distinguished Spanish for Heritage Learners Programs in the United States. Duties will also include teaching courses in Hispanic linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate level, engagement with the local heritage learners’ community including area teachers and departmental and university service. The Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Hispanic linguistics or a related field at the time of appointment. Evidence of teaching excellence as well as scholarly achievement or significant scholarly potential is also required. Candidates at associate level need to demonstrate a record of scholarship commensurate with the appointment with tenure at an AAU, Carnegie Research University. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required. Review of candidates will begin on November 24, 2014.
