Meeting Description:

In its fifth edition, the International Conference on Metaphor and Thought will take place on 7, 8 and 9 October 2015, at the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The conference is regarded as an important event for the community of researchers interested in metaphor and its role in language and thought. It is also important for the international community of Cognitive Linguistics in general. In its latest edition, the conference was attended by more than 200 researchers from around the world.

The event will cover various aspects relevant to Cognitive Linguistics, especially the theme “Metaphor and Language Teaching”.

The conference has the support of the Faculty of Letters /UFMG, the Graduate Program in Linguistics (POSLIN/UFMG), and the Extension Center (CENEX – FALE/UFMG).

Call for Papers:

Papers can be submitted within the following topics: metaphor / metonymy and teaching, metaphor / metonymy and speech, metaphor / metonymy and multimodality, metaphor / metonymy and culture, as well as theoretical and methodological perspectives on metaphor / metonymy research.

Abstracts of 20-minute papers (no more than 300 words, excluding references) and poster presentations are invited on any of the above topics.

The languages of the conference will be English and Portuguese, so the abstracts must be in either one of these languages. Only three authors per paper will be accepted.
