Meeting Description:
5th and concluding colloquium of the project “„SMS communication in Switzerland: Facets of linguistic variation in a multilingual country“, founded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
After three years, the Swiss project sms4science has produced an abundance of relevant research in different linguistic fields. One subproject concentrated on the minority languages Romansh and the Italian dialect spoken in the southern part of Switzerland. The second one's focus was on code-switching, for which our multi-lingual corpus of text messages offered an excellent basis. The third subproject investigated grammatical features with a special focus on ellipsis.
During the two-day conference, the most important results of this research will be presented in English, German and French, with slides and handouts in English. The focus will be on text messages written in German, French, Italian and Romansh.
