Veronika Ritt-Benmimoun's study of the phonology and morphology of the dialect of the southern Tunisian region of Douz is the first detailed grammatical description of a Tunisian Bedouin dialect to be published in the form of a monograph. Within the group of Maghreb dialects the dialect of Douz can be assigned to the Hilali layer of Bedouin dialects belonging to the so-called Sulaym type. Due to certain phonological and morphological phenomena it is seen as being very archaic in comparison to other Maghrebi dialects. This grammar makes an important contribution to a better understanding of the still barely studied Arabian Bedouin dialects of the Maghreb. The study is based exclusively on data which was collected by the author during field research regularly undertaken in the Douz region since 2003. (Harrassowitz Verlag 2014)
