The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Human Sciences, Department of Linguistics is seeking to fill the following position:

Academic Staff Member (Post-doctoral Researcher)
Salary scale: 13 TVL (Area East)

to be part of the research group on Theoretical Computational Linguistics (Prof. Dr. Alexander Koller). The position is for 40 hours per week. If possible, employment should begin on 1 March 2015. The position is initially limited to two years and can be extended. Contracts are time-limited according to the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Law (WissZeitVG).

A successful candidate should have proven expertise in statistical methods in computational linguistics and be willing to take an active role in the group's research activities. Current topics in the research group include:
- parsing
- semantic parsing
- dialogue and natural language generation
- automata theory

The candidate should ideally hold or be about to complete a PhD in computational linguistics, computer science, or a related field.

The position includes four hours of teaching per week in the BSc Computational Linguistics (in German) and/or the MSc Cognitive Systems (in English). Although it is not a strict requirement, preference will be given to applicants who are able to teach in German.

The computational linguistics group in Potsdam is part of the Department of Linguistics and the university's Research Center on Cognitive Science. It provides a dynamic and international research environment and maintains close ties with the departments of computer science and psychology. The department offers a BSc in Computational Linguistics and an MSc in Cognitive Systems, which is taught in English and covers computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

The city of Potsdam is the historical residence of the Prussian kings and the German emperors. It is part of the Berlin metropolitan area, one of the cultural and scientific capitals of the world. The city of Berlin is within commuting distance, and many researchers and students choose to live there. The region offers a high quality of urban life at very modest living costs.
