Description:

The University of Arizona English Language/Linguistics (EL/L) Program in the Department of English invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure-track) in TESL (Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language) and Applied Linguistics specializing in one or more of the following areas: community ESL, L2 assessment, research methods, curriculum and materials development, teacher development, and/or descriptive and pedagogical grammar. The position, to start August 2015, will become a member of our graduate faculty, teaching and advising MA students in EL/L (TESL) and PhD students in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, with a yearly teaching load of 2-2 (nine-month contract). The position will participate in program initiatives to develop local, regional, and international partnerships for internships, study abroad, and scholarly exchange. The position will also be expected to collaborate across the Department, College, and University on research, educational, and outreach initiatives, for example with CESL, the university’s Intensive English Program and CERCLL, the university’s Nat’l Foreign Language Resource Center. The duties of the position include:
- Teaching MA and PhD level graduate courses in areas of specialization and undergraduate courses in TESL-related topics when needed.
- Conducting an active program of professional research and publication.
- Advising master’s and doctoral students on professional activity, employment, research, and publication in TESL and applied linguistics.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the Department, College, and University on research, educational, and outreach initiatives.
- Contributing service to the Department, College, University, and community.

A Ph.D. in TESOL, Applied or Educational Linguistics, or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered if they provide evidence of degree in hand by the time of appointment.
