Focus: This PhD course approaches language change by focusing on constructional and/or featural 'loss' and 'gain' in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and the lexicon. The phenomena addressed in the lectures comprise, but are not restricted to, the gain and loss of morphological categories as well as compensation strategies for loss, the rise and decline of syntactic categories and constructions from single and multiple sources, as well as lexical and phonological change.

Description:
The target group for this course is PhD candidates within historical and
comparative linguistics. The course is a combination of lectures given by
well-established researchers in historical and comparative linguistics, and
workshops sessions where PhD candidates are given the opportunity to present
their research in the field and receive feedback from both fellow PhD
candidates and senior colleagues.

PhD candidates are invited to submit abstracts for 20-minute talks (plus 10
minutes discussion). Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words (excluding
