Description:
The Department of Classics, Modern Languages
and Linguistics at Concordia University in
Montreal, Quebec, invites applications for two
(2) limited-term appointments in Linguistics.
One position is for a Theoretical Linguist,
with demonstrated competence in acoustic
phonetics. One position is for a specialist in
Historical Linguistics, with the ability to
teach broadly in the area of language variation
and change. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or ABD
status in Linguistics or a relevant field and
proven excellence in teaching.
Applications should consist of a cover letter,
a current curriculum vitae, a statement of
teaching philosophy/interests, and evidence of
teaching effectiveness. Successful applicants
must be qualified to teach at the level
indicated in each position. Evidence of
teaching effectiveness is the key attribute by
which qualified candidates are ranked.
Candidates should arrange for three letters of
reference to be sent directly to Professor Mark
Hale, Chair of the Department of Classics,
Modern Languages and Linguistics at the

These positions are subject to budgetary
approval and department/unit need. Individuals
holding limited-term appointments may be
reappointed, given continued funding and need,
as well as satisfactory job performance.
Together, initial appointments and subsequent
reappointments may not exceed 36 months or a
span of three consecutive years. They are
normally at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant
Professor, beginning August 1, 2014 and ending
May 14, 2015. Successful candidates will
normally be expected to teach three courses per
semester.
