Meeting Description:
The International Conference on Intercultural Pragmatics and Communication (INPRA) is a well known biennial meeting and this would be its 7th edition. The main aim of the Conference is to bring together researchers from around the world who have diverse scientific backgrounds but share the same field of interest – pragmatics, being perceived as a cognitive, philosophical, social, and intercultural perspective on language and communication.
Numerous renowned linguists and scholars will give speeches, re-define key questions and present research findings. In particular, the Scientific Committee strongly encourages younger scholars and PhD students concerned with pragmatics to give speeches, too.
This Conference should promote connections between pragmatic theory and its application in practice. The various subfields of pragmatics and different approaches even to the same topic will provide a better understanding of intercultural communication in today’s communication-driven society.
Parallel sessions will be held in relation to the following non-exhaustive thematic strands:
1.Pragmatics theories and theoretical perspectives (philosophical, cognitive, societal)
-Classical pragmatics (speech-acts theory, Grice and conversational implicatures)
-Contemporary pragmatics theories (relevance theory, socio-cognitive approach, etc.)
-Metapragmatics
-Pragmatic meaning, semantic-pragmatic interface, content and context
-Implicatures (neo-Gricean approaches); explicatures
-Discourse deixis
-Presuppositions
-Speech acts: conventionality and intentionality
-Developmental experimental pragmatics
-Formulaic language, figurative language
etc…
2.Intercultural, cross-cultural and societal aspects of pragmatic research:
-Communicating interculturality: speaking across cultures
-Lingua franca pragmatics
-Societal pragmatics, pragmemes
-Communication and cultural patterns, intercultural misunderstandings
-Sociopragmatics: interlanguage
-Language and social networks
-Understanding everyday language (speakers’ repertoires)
-(Im)politeness phenomena (intention, cultural models and context)
-Cultural dimensions of discourse
-Computer-mediated communication, media communication
-Gendered speech communities

The conference is open to all other pragmatics-related topics broadly defined.

Call for Papers:
Paper and Panel Proposals
Abstracts (min. 300 and max. 350 words, excluding references) are invited both for papers and panels on any relevant pragmatic topic. Please include the word count at the bottom of the page (longer abstracts will be rejected).
Abstracts will be double-blind peer-viewed by the Scientific Committee members and should include research questions, methods, results and theoretical or practical implications. Paper will be allowed 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for questions. All presentations will be in English.
Note that one person may submit a single- or a co-authored abstract.
Abstracts (including the author’s name and affiliation, email address and paper title) should be submitted to inpra2016

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 December 2015. The Scientific Committee will announce their decision on acceptance/rejection of abstracts by 20 January 2016.
