Description:
The Class of Language in the Graduate School Language & Literature Munich at LMU München is advertising two research assistant positions (TV-L 13, 50%) for doctoral candidates in Linguistics. To fill these vacancies candidates who have obtained their first degree from a foreign university are preferred.
The positions begin 1 October 2015 and are initially limited until 31 December 2016. An extension for a further 15 months is possible and intended. Applications are submitted with the application for admission to the Class of Language.
The Class of Language is one of four classes of the Graduate School Language & Literature Munich (GS L&L). It was established in 2002 as Linguistisches Internationales Promotionsprogramm (LIPP) and offers a program for doctoral candidates of all linguistic disciplines at the LMU München.
The systematically structured program ''Sprachtheorie und Angewandte Sprachwissenschaft'' (Language Theory and Applied Linguistics) addresses highly qualified graduates from Germany and abroad who wish to obtain a doctoral degree within three years in a research-oriented and interdisciplinary doctoral program. University teachers from 13 linguistic disciplines represent a broad and inter-related range of theoretical positions, methodological approaches and practical orientation.
Our doctoral study program provides:
- a research-oriented and systematically structured interdisciplinary syllabus;
- an individual and intensive advisory support for doctoral candidates;
- a variety of opportunities for exchanges among doctoral candidates, university teachers and international visiting scholars;
- the opportunity to jointly organize international conferences with other doctoral candidates;
- funding for international research stays and conference trips;
- the possibility of pursuing a binational double doctorate through the procedure ''cotutelle de thèse.''
The dissertation projects are dedicated to cross-linguistic and language specific issues (synchronic and diachronic), to discourses and texts in their institutional contexts and to the social effects of language. The interdisciplinary character of the program focuses on linguistic theory and language practice and their interrelationship.
Requirements:
- university degree graded as above average (Magister Artium, diploma, state board examination, Master of Arts ("with thesis"), Maîtrise, Laurea, ect.) with a major in one of the following program subjects: General Linguistics and Language Typology, Theoretical Linguistics, Phonetics and Verbal Communication, Psycholinguistics and Science of Speech, English Philology / Linguistics, Romance Philology / Linguistics, Slavic Philology / Linguistics, German as a Foreign Language / Transnational German Studies, German Linguistics, Comparative and Indo-European Linguistics, Finno-Ugric / Uralic Studies, Albanian Studies;
