Meeting Description:

The first AMC Symposium, to be hosted by the Angus McIntosh Centre for Historical Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh on 9-10 June 2016, focuses broadly on the theme of Historical Dialectology, with no restrictions to particular languages or historical periods.

Plenary Speakers:

- Professor Michael Benskin (University of Oslo)
- Dr. Margaret Laing (Honorary Fellow, University of Edinburgh)
- Professor Roger Lass (Honorary Professorial Fellow, University of Edinburgh)

A one- or two-day, hands-on workshop exploring the content and potential of the AMC corpora and atlases will immediately follow the Symposium.

Call for Papers:

We welcome abstract submissions on topics related to historical dialectology, including:

- Theory and methods
- Descriptive studies
- Comparative studies
- Language contact
- Sociolinguistic factors
- Building corpora and resources
- Visualising and exploring data
- Historical dialectology in the classroom

We particularly encourage submissions which showcase the corpora and atlases developed at the University of Edinburgh and hosted by the AMC, i.e. LALME, LAEME, CoNE, LAOS. We also welcome submissions from postgraduate and doctoral students.

Presentation Format:

Presentation slots are 30 minutes (20-minute talk + 10-minute discussion).

Abstract Submissions:

Please submit abstracts* of up to 400 words (excluding references) by October 31, 2015. Submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer-review processes. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by January 31, 2016.

*No more than one individual and/or co-authored paper per participant.

- The language of the conference is English.
