The members of the research project Es.Var.Atenuación, the Val.Es.Co research group, the Department of Spanish Philology in the University of Valencia and the Interuniversity Institute of Applied Modern Languages of Valencia (IULMA) are pleased to invite you to participate in the International Conference on Linguistic Attenuation: Semantic and Pragmatic Perspectives that will take place in Valencia (Spain) from June 15 to June 18, 2016.

Call for Papers:

This conference aims to create a discussion forum for linguists around the world dedicated to the study of attenuation from pragmatic and semantic perspectives. It is open to all contributions dealing with any of the multiple linguistic phenomena related to linguistic attenuation. Studies on the following topics are especially welcome:

- Vague language
- Approximation mechanisms
- Phonetic and prosodic mechanisms for the expression of attenuation
- Diatopic, diastratic and diaphasic variation in the use of attenuation strategies
- Methodological issues and possible solutions in research on attenuation
- Linguistic phenomena in the mitigation-evidentiality interface

Important Dates:

- Submission of presentation proposals deadline: 30 January 2016
- Confirmation of acceptance by 26 February 2016
