Meeting Description:

The 44th meeting of the North American Conference on Afroasiatic Linguistics (NACAL 44) will be held in Austin, TX on Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14, 2016.

This conference is dedicated to research on languages belonging to the Afroasaitic phylum (Berber, Chadic, Cushitic, Egyptian, Omotic, and Semitic). Original research, particularly on primary sources, is encouraged.

Our keynote speaker this year is Prof. James P. Allen (Brown University).

Call for Papers:

Papers on linguistic topics relevant to the languages of the Afroasiatic phylum (Berber, Chadic, Cushitic, Egyptian, Omotic, and Semitic) are requested. Topics relating to all aspects of Afroasiatic languages will be considered; this year we especially encourage submissions dealing with evidence (or lack thereof) to support the basic premise of this conference, namely, the genealogical relationship between the Berber, Chadic, Cushitic, Egyptian, Omotic, and Semitic families.

Papers may address specific features or be programmatic. However, no original paper will be rejected on account of its subject, as long as it relates to the languages of the Afroasiatic phylum and meets the scholarly standards established by previous conferences.

Abstracts of 200-300 words describing the precise topic treated can be sent electronically to afroasiaticgmail.com, or as a paper copy to the following address:
