Dates: 22-Jun-2015 - 26-Jun-2015

Focus: The theme of the inaugural Glendon Translation Research Summer School, to be held from June 22-26, 2015, is “Translation, Language, and Place.” The school will be led by Prof. Sherry Simon.

For this inaugural translation research summer school we invite researchers working on the conceptual intersections of translation, language, and place. Researchers will discuss the relationship between language, translation, and the imaginaries of a place and its cultural history, and how language and translation enact, respond to, and shape place. We encourage graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars working on projects related to the theme to apply. Possible research topics can include—although they are not restricted to—the relationship between translation and cities, translation and borders, translation and national languages, translation ecologies and landscapes, exile and belonging, and translation and territory.
Minimum Education Level: MA

Special Qualifications:
We encourage graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars working on the conceptual intersections of translation, language, and place to apply.

Description:
The Glendon Translation Research Summer School will be one week of intensive
activities, which will include daily group meetings with the Chair Professor,
as well as plenaries, roundtables, and other fora and training opportunities
for translation students and scholars. In 2015 the summer school is planned at
the same time as the renowned Luminato Festival, Toronto’s Festival of Arts
and Creativity. This will allow participants to combine the academic
activities with Toronto’s stimulating cultural arts scene.

The Translation Research Summer School is sponsored by Glendon College. It is
organized by the Centre for Research on Language Contact (CRLC), and it is
part of the activities of the Research Group on Translation and Transcultural
