Meeting Description:
The Seventeenth International Conference on the History of the English Language in Italy will be hosted by the University of Catania at Ragusa from 22-24 October 2015.
The general theme of the Conference is “Labelling English, English Labelled: From the 9th Century to Late Modern Times”.
Prof. Richard Watts (Emeritus at the University of Bern) and Prof. Ulrich Busse (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) will be the key-note speakers at the Conference.
Call for Papers:
Possible research areas include, but are not limited to:
1. Metalinguistic awareness and its development through time
2. Search for identity
3. English language ideology
4. English and Englishness
5. Contact and change: labelling and re-labelling English?
6. Labels and the codification of English
7. Shakespeare’s English: a viable label?
Proposals for papers, in the form of 300-word abstracts (including references), should be emailed to Massimo Sturiale (msturial
unict.it) by 28 February 2015.
Acceptance will be notified by 15 April 2015.
