E-mail this message to a friend Suzuko Tamura, professor emeritus at Waseda University died on August 3, 2015 at the age of 81. A funeral service was held on August 6 at Ogikubo Catholic Church.
Professor Tamura was born in 1934, graduated from the Department of Linguistics, University of Tokyo in 1956, and joined the Institute of Language Teaching, Waseda University, where she became a professor in 1979, until her retirement in 2004. She also became an Honorary Academician at the Royal Academy of the Basque Language in 2000. She was a prominent researcher of Ainu, Basque and other languages, and has published "Ainu Audio Materials" 1-12 (Waseda University, 1984-2000), "A Dictionary of the Saru Dialect of Ainu" (Sofukan, 1996), "The Ainu Language" (Sanseido, 2000), and many other works.
