Faculty Vacancy Announcement
Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments; performs administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
As a community college in the City University of New York system, Queensborough Community College offers a wide variety of courses for university transfer, general education, preparation for careers, and enrichment. Contractual teaching load is 27 contact hours for the academic year (typically nine course sections); summer teaching is optional. Faculty on Assistant Professor tenure track lines receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship, and continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Faculty members participate in departmental and college activities, including committee work, course and program assessment, curriculum development and preparation of grants. Faculty members also provide academic support and advisement for students.
Responsibilities include: Teaching Speech Communication and Remediation. The successful candidate must be able to assume a leadership role in developing American English Speech Remediation Courses and Communication Courses. Further responsibilities may include speech proficiency screenings, participation as a judge or coordinator in departmental speech competition, curriculum development, course assessment, academic advisement, and mentoring student projects. Continued scholarly activities required for tenure and promotion. Evening/weekend schedule may be required.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
- Ph.D. degree in TESOL, Speech Communication, or linguistics is required for appointment as Assistant Professor. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, an interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, collegial attributes, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
- Knowledge of current theory and its practical application on TESOL methodology
- College teaching experience in a diverse urban environment
- Commitment to publication and research
- Experience in communication curriculum development, grant-writing, and teaching of electronic technology as a research and presentation tool
- Experience in developing and implementing course assessment.
- Broad experience in teaching communication courses including American English Speech Remediation Courses.
