Meeting Description:

In line with the four previous successful ASYRAS conferences, the Department of English and German Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is pleased to announce the Fifth International Conference of the Association of Young Researchers on Anglophone Studies, ASYRAS 2017: ''Against all Odds: Persistence and Resistance in Young Researchers' Work''. The event will be held at the Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres at the UAB between 25 and 27 January 2017, to encourage and promote early-career linguistic, literary and cultural research in Anglophone Studies.

Over the last few years, young researchers have had to face a difficult social and academic scenario, which against all odds is generating promising and fruitful future careers. This conference aims to provide a stimulating environment for postgraduate students and early-career specialists in English Studies to present and share their ideas on exciting areas of linguistic, literary and cultural research. It will offer a combination of plenary talks and joint panels of presentations, as well as two sessions of lightning talks (pecha kuchas) and the ''Doctor is in'' sessions where workshops on academic writing or postdoctoral opportunities will be held. Confirmed plenary speakers include Professor Carmen Muñoz, from the Universitat de Barcelona, Dr Antonio Ballesteros, from the Universidad Nacional a Distancia (UNED), Professor Maria-Josep Solé and Professor Andrew Monnickendam from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Call for Papers:

Two types of proposals may be submitted:

- 300-word abstracts for papers not exceeding 20 minutes
- 300-word abstracts for pecha kucha (lightning talks) not exceeding 10 minutes

If you wish, you may submit a proposal for both a paper and a pecha kucha. Your proposals should be submitted via EasyChair by 30 September 2016. Your submission MUST CLEARLY INDICATE whether the proposal is for a paper or for a pecha kucha.

The address for submissions is as follows: (Click on Submissions/Add a submission)

Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 15 November 2016. Post-conference, a selection of extended versions of the best contributions will be edited by the organisers and published in open access.
