Meeting Description:

Save the date: Partitivity and Language Contact

This is the first announcement of the international workshop on 'Partitivity and Language Contact', taking place at the University of Zurich/Switzerland on November 25/26, 2016. The workshop is dedicated to a broad investigation into the different means used for encoding partitivity and related notions such as quantification, marking the mass-count distinction etc., and their potential coming into being enhanced by language contact, between neighboring varieties as well as between standard and dialectal varieties. Overall, the workshop seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the syntax and semantics of nominal and pronominal partitivity markers in a wide range of languages (German, German dialects, Dutch, Luxemburgish, Romanian, Istro-Romanian, Italian, Italian dialects, Ladin, Sardinian, French, Occitan, Catalan, Russian, Russian dialects, Croatian, Molise Slavic, Breton, Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian) - both from a formal and typological perspective.

Further information (website, detailed program, inscription) will be communicated via Linguistlist by the end of June. We would be delighted to welcome many of you in Switzerland! For any queries, please feel free to contact either Prof. Elisabeth Stark ( or David Paul Gerards (
