Hi, we do not use that construction today; it's common in Beowulf which had a few more case endings than modern English does. It does seem that focus might play a role in word order -- not sure, have you read Halliday on theme-rheme (The construction of knowledge and value in the grammar of scientific discourse: Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species.)?
Wish I had more to say but I do not.
