Ibérica's special issue on "Metaphor and Metonymy in Science and Technology" - Fall 2017
Ibérica is the Journal of the European Association of Languages for Specific Purposes (AELFE). It is a peer-reviewed open access journal published biannually, covered by the most important international databases, directories and index lists such as:

As guest editors of a Special Issue of Ibérica, we invite you to submit article, book review and interview proposals on the topic "Metaphor and Metonymy in Science and Technology"
The proposal for this special issue on scientific and technical metaphor and metonymy responds to the need for further research on this powerful cognitive mechanism of language and thought in LSP. Since the very beginning, scientists and technicians have been making use of metaphor and metonymy to design new concepts, to construct mental models to support their conceptual system, and to explain new theories that are difficult to explain to the rest of the scientific community. The unfolding of scientific and technical language provides relevant information of the role of metaphor in science and technology, and takes us up into the very origin of scientific thought.
During the last 30 years, the development of cognitive science has opened up new perspectives into the field and the study of metaphor in literature and in general language has made great progress. Recently, there is a growing awareness of the pervasive presence of metaphor in scientific thought and language; however, specific research on metaphor and metonymy in scientific and technical discourse remains an open field to be explored from different perspectives. Newer theoretical frameworks, such as those provided by the Generative Lexicon or by other lexical or syntactic theories, multimodal approaches, and cross-linguistic and cross-cultural studies of metaphor and metonymy represent different aspects to analyse within cognitive and social studies that would benefit from more research.
The scope of this issue on "Metaphor and Metonymy in Science and Technology" includes :

- Physical activity and Sports Sci.,
- Legal, Political and Economic Sci.
