The Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University invites applications for two Visiting Lecturers (two-year renewable appointment) to teach Spanish language (upper level) as well as Spanish culture, literature, and/or linguistics in a dual Spanish B.A. program offered collaboratively with Qingdao University, in Qingdao, PRC. The positions will be housed in the PRC. Start date mid-February 2017. Possibility of renewal, contingent upon satisfactory performance. Positions include a teaching load of eight courses, distributed over two semesters (4 + 4), and involve the option of an additional summer course or administrative duties. Annual salary: $39,000. Possibility of overload teaching for extra compensation. Positions are contingent on funding.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in Spanish. Native or near-native linguistic ability in both Spanish and English. Excellent teaching credentials, with at least two years’ experience teaching Spanish language and culture, linguistics, and/or literature courses in Spanish at the university level. The instructor should be well versed in task-based language teaching, communicative language teaching, and have experience working with adult Spanish language learners.
